Setting up Camp at Turkey Gap
Things You Need To Know!
  • Outings include day hikes, backpack overnight hikes, overnight car/tent camping trips, and trail maintenance.
  • All outings are open to members and guests, unless otherwise noted due to restrictions on size of group.
  • Please review outing description for difficulty rating (easy, moderate, extreme) and plan accordingly.
  • Remember trip coordinators are member volunteers who plan outings for your enjoyment.
  • To participate in day hikes, backpack overnight hikes, overnight camping trips, trail maintenance. YOU MUST notify the trip coordinator in advance that you will attend.
  • Should you not do this you may arrive to find the trip cancelled or changed to a different location.
  • Trip coordinator may also cancel an outing if nobody calls to participate.
  • Your participation is important once you agree to do an outing.
  • Please call the Trip coordinator should you need to cancel.

Jun 05 - Pinhoti Trail - Monthly Trail Maintenance and Overnight Shelter Camping Meeting at 8:00AM, Hardee's at I20 exit 199 (Heflin). Howard is also planning to overnight camp at Lower Shoal Shelter about 0.9 miles off FS531.  Contact Howard Gilham 205-253-0490 for additional information

Jun 06 - Meeting - Vestavia Hills Library, 2nd floor conference room.

Jun 26 & 27- Chief LadigaTrail - Bike Ride on the Chief Ladiga Rails to Trails. Overnight car camping near Little Tarrapin Creek on private property. Be sure and bring chairs, water, and food to cook out. Meet Saturday, 9AM at Jack's in Piedmont. Contact Howard Gilham 205-253-0490 or O. July 24 & 25 - HOT! Summer Shoal Creek Float
We will float Shoal Creek from Sweetwater Lake to Pine Glenn FS500. Bring you own flotation device. This will be an easy float and should be lots of fun. Overnight car camping at Pine Glenn Campground (fee). Bring your chair, water and food to cook out. Meet Saturday 9AM Hardee's at the Heflin I20 Exit 199. Contact Tom Coffield at 205-531-9312 for directions and additional information.

Sept 11 & 12 - Trail Maintenance / Meeting
We will do trail maintenance and overnight car camp at Coleman Lake Campground (fee). Bring your chair and food to cook out. Shower houses are available. Water and electricity are at each campsite. This will be our fall/winter planning meeting. Share your ideas of where you would like to hike.
